working together for all our children
We aim to embed the teaching of grammar in context to improve the teaching of reading and writing across schools in Sheffield, Yorkshire and beyond.
Come and find out about how to develop reading comprehension using a systematic approach across school. Learn about the value of reciprocal teaching to develop whole class reading using a class novel. Find out about how to develop whole school reading beyond the guided reading model in line with a mastery curriculum. Discover how we embed reading across the curriculum. Watch reading in action with pupils and take part in a live reciprocal reading session.
Sample reciprocal reading planning; recommended reading lists; progressive whole school reading curriculum; model reading policy and strategies for developing reading for pleasure will all be provided for you to take away.
Come and find out how to embed contextualised grammar teaching rather than teaching grammar in the abstract. Learn how to teach children to enhance the way that their writing communicates with the reader by forging a link between specific linguistic features and the grammatical choices which can improve a child’s writing. Find out how focusing on teaching grammar for meaning rather than simply pointing out grammatical inaccuracies can radically improve children’s writing.
Come and see first-hand the techniques we use to support pupils using language structures and oral rehearsal prior to writing. Our mantra is “if they can’t say it, they can’t write it” and it is the vigorous preparation for writing which our course teaches. Learn how to teach children the language structures needed for writing whether they are new to English, SEND or Advanced Bilingual Learners.
